Clarke County would like to recognize Mrs. Joyce Shaw who has exhibited outstanding service to her county and the 4-H program.
Joyce joined the 4-H organization in Clarke County, as a volunteer leader and as a big supporter of her own four children through their active 4-H years. Joyce herself was not an active 4-Her in her younger years but became a lifelong volunteer through her adulthood. Joyce found her passion as a 4-H volunteer leader for the K.W. Hustlers 4-H club in Clarke County, from 1998-2012. During this time, the K.W. Hustlers 4-H club was the biggest club in Clarke County.
Joyce enjoyed organizing the club's annual fundraiser bake sales, where 4-H club members would sell their baked goods outside a local grocery store. Club members would learn the skill of counting back change to customers. Another favorite event Joyce enjoyed was helping 4-H club members make and deliver Christmas cards to residents at the local nursing homes to spread holiday cheer to residents. Joyce was known for decorating the store window of a downtown business on the Osceola square every year to help promote National 4-H week. Joyce always looked for opportunities to share about 4-H to youth and her local community.
Joyce has always been a “helping hands” and a “warm hello” at the Clarke County Fair from the time she started volunteering as a leader to the present day. On static day, Joyce can be found right inside the door to share her “helping hands and “warm welcome” with county 4-Hers and to help them navigate static judging day events, making sure they have everything they need, to getting to the right judge. Joyce can also be found helping place State Fair ribbons on selected projects and setting up nice displays for projects after judging is done. Joyce is the one who “turns off the lights” after a long day of static judging, often being the last to leave for the day.
