Dan Lane

Growing up Dan was a 4-H member in Jackson County where he served as a member of 4-H county council.  Dan attended Iowa State for his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.  He taught at Central School in Elkader and served as the FFA Advisor.  Dan then taught at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo. He served as the Clayton County Extension Director from May 2007- August 2009. After the county director positions were eliminated, Dan served as the Region 4 Youth Program Coordinator, he later became a state 4-H employee as the Youth Field Specialist. After leaving Extension Dan became an Agriculture Science Instructor at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar where he still adjunct teaches. He currently is a Field Manager at JBS.

Dan and his wife Peggy are the parents of two children, Keaton and Melanie.  Dan and his family have been involved in producing purebred and crossbred youth swine projects.

Dan is a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader. He is a former member of the Clayton County Pork Producers and a current member of the Clayton County Fair Board.

The 4-H program holds a special place in Dan’s heart. He continues to help and support the program.  He coached the livestock judging teams and organized regional 4-H citizenship trips to Washington DC. Dan enjoys judging livestock shows across the country. He will continue to watch the 4-H program flourish and help youth reach their full potential.
