Darwin MeyerFranklin County volunteer, Darwin Meyer was a member of the West Fork Winners 4-H club from 1961-1967.  Darwin's projects included gardening, showing Brown Swiss calves, and a swine project.  

He served as the club leader when his son, Brian, was in 4-H.  Darwin served on the County 4-H Youth Committee and the Extension Council.  He served 6 years as a supervisor in the 4-H food stand at the Franklin County Fair.  He helped with the swine show at the fair for many years.  Darwin helped chaperone members attending the Senior Award Trip to Chicago and State 4-H camp.  Darwin has been the project leader for the Aerospace project the past 32 years in Franklin County.  He has been a judge for many 4-H awards programs and projects. 

Darwin's latest endeavor has been organizing and providing buckets of scrap metal for a new Franklin County project called the Bucket of Junk Challenge.  Ten 4-H members are provided a bucket of scrap metal of about 20-25 items.  They take these items and make yard ornaments from them and bring them to the fair for judging and display.  At the end of the fair the items are sold and the money raised goes to the Franklin County Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.  

Darwin is and has been involved in many community, county, and state organizations.  He is a member of the Sheffield Lions Club and will be the District Governor for Lions in North Central Iowa  July 1, 2017- July 1, 2018.  He is a member of the Sheffield Community Club, and served on the  Zion St. John Lutheran church council.  He helps with the confirmation program and the youth program at church.  Darwin was a Sunday School teacher for many years.  He is presently the president of the Franklin County Historical Society.  He has served on the Franklin County Farm Bureau board including serving as president.  He was a member of the Franklin County Pork Producers.  Darwin  served as vice president and president of the pork producers and was on the State Board of Directors of the Iowa Pork Producers.  He served on the board of directors of the Sheffield Farmers Coop.

Darwin and his wife, Lorna, have been married for 45 years.  They have two children, a daughter Tawnya and her husband Paul, and children Maddie and Jacquie of Urbandale, Iowa, and son Brian and his wife Hollie, and children Cade and Emma of Mason City, Iowa.

Darwin enjoys fishing, boating, working with youth, and spending time with his family and grandkids.
