This year’s Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame recipients, Louis and Pat Courtney, have been involved in Winneshiek County 4-H for the last 40 years. They live and farm west of Decorah. Together, they have raised their family showing and teaching the value of 4-H. They are proud parents of (7) children. Shawn, Shane, Scott, Shelby, Sheil, Shannon and Sam, all whom have become very involved with 4-H and the community.
Raising and showing dairy cattle have been the family’s biggest projects and it has now been passed on to their children and grandchildren. Their family participated and exhibited at the county, district and state levels. This includes supporting their children and grandchildren on judging teams, county councils and helping with various committees and fundraisers for the county. As most of you know, Louis and Pat will hardly pass up an opportunity to attend the youth dairy shows to support the next generations.
Pat volunteer’s her time to working in the community building during the Winneshiek County Fair. For the past 21 years, Pat served as a Winneshiek County Extension Council member. Louis still continues his passion on the farm daily by feeding calves, helping with field work and other various jobs. Louis represents Bluffton Township as a trustee and continues to attend board meetings. Over the past years, Louis and Pat have served on various committees, on the church council and school board.
They are true role models and advocate for youth and the 4-H program in Winneshiek County. Winneshiek County Extension and the 4-H program are blessed to have their continuous support.
Congratulations to Louis and Pat Courtney on being this year’s Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame honorees.
