Ida County feels privileged to nominate Lois Spaulding to the 2012 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. Lois has been an integral part of Ida County 4-H in a vast array of areas. As leader of the Maple Huskies 4-H Club for 21 years, she provided endless opportunities for club members. As a club, they accomplished many goals with Lois’s guidance: annual bake sales and fundraisers that helped different local community businesses all the way to aiding Hurricane Katrina victims; hands-on work to help establish the Battle Hill Museum, new park and walking trails in Battle Creek; fairground projects to include painting barns, repairing the sheep barn, and converting a hog barn into a goat/sheep barn. Along with fundraisers, Lois has assisted her 4-H club members in writing grants to achieve some of these goals. She strongly encouraged and helped youth take active roles in communications as she realized the importance of this lifelong skill. She created and established the Maple Huskies Scholarship Program.
