Lois SpauldingIda County feels privileged to nominate Lois Spaulding to the 2012 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.  Lois has been an integral part of Ida County 4-H in a vast array of areas.  As leader of the Maple Huskies 4-H Club for 21 years, she provided endless opportunities for club members.  As a club, they accomplished many goals with Lois’s guidance:   annual bake sales and fundraisers that helped different local community businesses all the way to aiding Hurricane Katrina victims;  hands-on work to help establish the Battle Hill Museum, new park and walking trails in Battle Creek;  fairground projects to include painting barns, repairing the sheep barn, and converting a hog barn into a goat/sheep barn.  Along with fundraisers, Lois has assisted her 4-H club members in writing grants to achieve some of these goals.  She strongly encouraged and helped youth take active roles in communications as she realized the importance of this lifelong skill.  She created and established the Maple Huskies Scholarship Program.

Lois contributed to the Ida County 4-H Program by serving on 4-H Committee from 1993 – 2007 and helped cultivate new ideas, judged record books, and kept fairbook rules current and observed.

She has been a member of the Ida County 4-H Foundation since 2008 and continues to help sponsor youth attending Iowa  4-H Youth Conference and Summer Camps.

As Poultry Superintendent and Dairy Superintendent for the Ida County Fair for many years, Lois has educated numerous young people as they learned to work with and enjoy their livestock.

Lois was selected as 2009 Honorary 4-H member and 2011 Leader of the Year in Ida County.

Everyone at the Ida County Fair looks forward to her amazing cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies she bakes and shares while they are still warm!

Lois has a family of five sons and one daughter for whom she has provided guidance with their projects of animals and a variety of numerous fair exhibits.  The year her daughter was born, they all attended fair 3 days later!  If you ask her or her family what they have done for vacation, they will all tell you, “the Ida County Fair, and if we were lucky enough to move on to the Iowa State Fair.”
Not only is Lois all about 4-H, she has instilled the 4-H values to her children who continue to be active in 4-H programs where they currently live!
