Richard & Ladonna SchaeferRichard Schaefer was a 4-H member growing up in the early to mid 1950s and especially liked showing cattle.

When Richard’s children were old enough to join 4-H in the 1980’s he got the entire family involved. Richard and Ladonna were club leaders and very involved 4-H parents for nearly 20 years.    They raised 3 “career” 4-Hers who each spent 9 very active years in 4-H, including County Council service, showing rabbits, poultry, swine, woodworking, photography, baking, clothing design, and much more.  Richard and Ladonna have served as clerks for rabbit and poultry shows at the Hancock County Fair.

Nathan Schaefer credits his and his sibling’s success to their parent’s involvement in 4-H by saying, “Brennon, Amber, and my successes in 4-H and life are directly correlated to our parent's involvement throughout the 4-H process: idea generation, assistance, encouragement, and sometimes persistence and steadfastness.”

Ladonna has been an avid 4-H supporter as a member on the Hancock County Extension Council for 11 years.  She participated in nearly 30 years of judging 4-H record books and specialty awards.

In 2011 Richard and Ladonna proved their dedication to 4-H once again when they nominated Hancock County 4-H to receive the Monsanto Growing Communities fund.  They have both contributed many hours of service to 4-H to help “Make the Best Better”.
