Jeff Klemme has always had a passion for agriculture. He grew up helping on the family farm and then he and his wife Cindy, would continue farming and raising livestock on their farm.
Jeff’s favorite time of year was the county fair! His three children, Jessica, Cassie, and Chance were active members also sharing their father’s love of livestock. While helping his children with their 4-H projects Jeff also volunteered his time on the Plymouth County Fairboard. He got to know many of the 4-H’ers and was always willing to give them a helping hand or just joke with them! He was one of those board members that worked closely with the Extension Staff and always looked out for the best interest of the youth. He spent a lot of time assisting on the poultry and sheep departments and ultimately was named the sheep superintendent. Jeff’s dedication for helping youth didn’t just stop with 4-H, he was one of the individuals that helped start the FFA Alumni group in his community.
No matter what organization you worked with Jeff on, you can bet that he always made the best of every situation and you always left his presence with a smile on your face. Jeff made many lifelong friends through the Plymouth County 4-H program and the fairboard.
It was only a few fairs ago that Jeff just wasn’t himself and he knew something wasn’t right. Through many months of doctor’s visits and testing, he was diagnosed with a rare disease that would take his life all too soon. Little did we know that the 2010 Plymouth County Fair, the fair that he loved so much, would be his last. We are left with a void in the 4-H program. Jeff Klemme’s smile and humor will be sorely missed around the grounds and at the Extension Office!
Jeff’s passion, work ethic, and personality were one of a kind. It is these qualities that he instilled in the many 4-H and FFA youth whose lives he touched in such a positive way. Jeff’s wife Cindy, their three children, and grandchildren have been left with many great memories and a circle of 4-H friends to support them and help them continue serving the 4-H program just as Jeff had for so many years.
