Phyllis Olson, Professor of Food & Nutrition, was an ISU Extension Nutritionist providing nutrition education for 28 years.  She developed project materials for 4-H’ers and volunteers, conducted training for staff, county and State Fair 4-H judges as well as implementing other food and nutrition activities.  Dr. Olson was superintendent of the Food & Nutrition department at the Iowa State Fair for 27 years.  She will long be remembered for the “4-H Tasting Time” and “Peek In” displays she originated.  As the state specialist she also gave leadership to the Food Science and mast food preserver programs throughout the state.

In recognition of her many contributions the Phyllis Olson 4-H Scholarship was established in 1988 and awarded annually to an ISU junior or senior majoring in food and nutrition or a related field.
