Dennis has been involved in Montgomery County 4-H for 52 years. He was a member of the Grant Spitfires 4-H Club for 10 years with both beef and swine projects. He showed swine at the state fair and Aksarben and had the grand champion market hog at the Iowa State Fair in 1962.
As an adult he was a Grant Spitfires leader for approximately 25 years, mentoring many youth in both beef and swine projects, including his children Mike and Marcia. He served 7 years as county fair beef superintendent and was instrumental in starting both the contemporary beef and feeder calf programs at the county fair. He is a trophy donor for the county fair. His farm has produced several Montgomery County Fair grand champion steers and market swine.
