Dolores MertzKossuth County 4-H has had a friend of Extension in Dolores Mertz for nearly forty years.  She served as a leader for over 25 years while her seven children were growing up in 4-H and she continued to stay involved after the last one graduated.  She served as organizational, assistant and project leader.  Later she volunteered to serve as the County Photography Superintendent, a position she has held for over 35 years and still holds today.  She also served as an achievement show judge for local clubs in the area.

She began her political career as a board of Supervisor member, taking over her husband’s position after his death.  During those years, she continued to support Extension and 4-H with county funds. Now as a State Legislator, she has supported and kept an eye on dollars for Extension and 4-H funding.  She co-sponsored Legislation for the Resolution and Proclamation for the100th Anniversary of the 4-H Youth Development Program.

Dolores continues to support 4-H in any way she can.  Dolores gives of her time and feels it is important to visit with different clubs and groups that visit the capitol.  She has helped with 4-H fund raisers, referendums, Award Banquets and starting the local 4-H & youth foundation in the county.  Dolores knows the great educational value of the 4-H program and continues to promote 4-H wherever she goes!
