2005 Deleware County - John & Be VermazenJohn and Be Vermazen have had an association with 4-H and the Extension Service that began with participation in 4-H during the depression.  John in Lee County Iowa and Be in Saunders County Nebraska.  After the war they graduated from Iowa State and began teaching careers in Vocational Agriculture and Home Economics.  Their teaching careers were short but their belief in the contribution of 4-H to the development of youth was life-long.  All five of their children participated in Delaware County’s 4-H program.  Be was the co-leader of the Classy Lassies from 1970-1980 and continued to serve on the home economics fair committee after that.  John was the co-leader of the Delaware Hustlers from 1968-1973 and continued to be a member of the sheep department fair committee for an additional ten years.  Less active now, they maintain their support as members of the 4-H 400 Club and their interest through the participation of their four Iowa-resident grandchildren in 4-H.
