2003 Delaware County - Gladys ChildsGladys, her husband Harold and her children were all 4-H members.  For over 35 years, she served as leader or co-leader for the Cheerful Workers 4-H club as well as project leader in several areas.   Through the years, she has participated in a wide variety of activities on the club, county and state level.  She and her family hosted IFYE students from Sri Lanka and Nepal as well as participating in several exchanges to other states.  Gladys was often busy behind the scenes planning events and programs, editing cookbooks, baking cookies for bake sales or making tray favors for the Good Neighbor home or local hospital.

Her family sponsors an annual scholarship to an outstanding Delaware County
4-H member in memory of her husband, Harold.  Since they started, other families have followed their lead.

Gladys continues to lend a hand with 4-H activities in the Delaware County. In late June, she was busy preparing stall cards for the livestock exhibits at the county fair. Gladys has been chopping onions for thousands of taco salads at the Friends of 4-H food stand over the past 24 years.  In the fall of 2002, she was honored for 40 years with 4-H in Delaware County.  She has been a positive influence in the lives of many local youth and is held in high regard by her fellow volunteers and co-workers.
