Barney is a 4-H leader in Kossuth County and has been a leader for 53 years. Barney, a bachelor, never had any children of his own and was never in 4-H, but he has many kids that he has helped mold into fine adults.
Barney began his involvement in 4-H as an assistant leader. When the organizational leader was injured in an accident, about 50 years ago, Barney took over as the leader. He held that position for many years until he stepped back down as assistant leader. Most of the leaders that have helped with the club since then have been his former 4-H members. He has enjoyed working with young people and has many fond memories of the4-H club, including many great basketball teams for the 4-H Basketball tournaments that are still held every year in Kossuth County.
Barney still farms and was a bus driver for the local school. He is still a very strong 4-H and school supporter, attends most functions, and never misses the county fair. He is also an avid golfer. Barney has made a positive impact on many people in Kossuth County.
